Are you ready for one of the coolest art installations in New York?

In 1980 Bill Brand made 228 hand-made panels that when in sequence create a mini animation movie called Masstransiscope. The only way to experience this incredible work is to take the B or Q train at the Dekalb train station one stop over to Canal Street (Manhattan bound) and look attentively to your right. The artist was intrigued by the idea of not having this particular work regulated by the mood that museums and galleries usually set. Bill has instead opted to have commuters enjoy a sort of private viewing on a public train.

There’s a feeling of excitement as you flash by the colorful animation. Then the train shoots up above ground to show you the beautiful New York City skyline and the Brooklyn bridge before heading back down into the Canal Street station. A true cinematic moment that will only cost you $2.25.
