The 23rd Street R train station is an arts homage to the neighborhoods historic and fashionable past. From the 1880’s-1920’s this area was the go to for all things style. This train stations fun hat mosaics by Keith Godard are not only fun to look at, but they each represent something or someone that has left a print in this neighborhood. Memories of Twenty-Third Street was completed in 2002 and is my fourth pick for our NYC Subway art series. A fun thing to do while you wait for the train is trying to catch a complete stranger perfectly and unknowingly standing right below one of the hats…then take a picture!
*The hat pictured above represents dancer Isadora Duncan.
